Subject : Hi Everybody Author : Bruce Snow Posted 04/30/2010 00:47 ======================= Hi Fellow Anglos,
I guess I'm the first of the group to introduce myself. I hope you all will follow suit. The personnel blurb only serves to peak my curiosity.
I'm from Louisiana, brought here 35 years ago from Boston by my work in the oil patch (Geologist and then Database Administrator).
I retired about five years ago but stay quite active with volunteerism (teaching ESL here in Lafayette -- mostly Hispanics), travel (i.e. Spain) and various interests (learning Spanish, studying flamenco guitar, among others).
I'm anticipating our Pinar de la vidriera experience with great enthusiasm (and all of my friends are so envious). We're going to have a great time!
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.
Bruce

Subject : Neave Author : Neave Ross-wallace Posted 05/01/2010 00:40 ======================= Hi everyone and thanks Bruce for your intro. Im from New Zealand and Ive just retrained as an early childhood teacher and work with little babies at the moment. Previous to this I worked as a psychotherapist with a focus on how memory is stored in the body. Im married to Andrew Wallace who is also coming on the program and we will be half way through our 4 month trip by the time we come and meet everyone in Spain. I (we) have two kids - the youngest has just left home - and we are FREE of our parenting responsibilities to do all the things we have been talking about for years - like travelling and meeting all sorts of interesting people. Im really looking forward to doing this week together - I would love any info anyone can give that would help me prepare for it - we will be in Turkey before coming on the program so if anyone has anything to share about their experiences there I would also be very grateful. Cheers Neave

Subject : Greetings Author : Karen Mitchell Posted 05/06/2010 03:05 ======================= Greetings! I am Karen Mitchell from Edmonds (Seattle) Washington, USA. I have been a hairdresser for over 27 years. My son (Tim, participating in the teen program)) and husband (Jeff Mathews, also participating in this program) are currently on a year long around the world trip. We are just finishing up our time in SE Asia before we head to Europe in the middle of May. We began our journey in Peru and spent 6 weeks exploring this amazing country before moving on to New Zealand in November. After 4 weeks we moved on to Australia where we spent 2 months traveling up and down the east coast camping our way and enjoying the summer months in OZ. We began our time in Asia with a brief 7 days in Hong Kong visiting friends before heading to Bangkok Thailand. We have traveled in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam for the past 3 months and loved it. We are looking forward to our time in Europe and will travel many places before we reach Pueblo Ingles and our meeting with all of you. Any must see, cannot miss places in Europe that you can share with us?

Subject : Hi from NZ Author : Andrew Wallace Posted 05/07/2010 12:32 ======================= Gidday everybody, I'm Andrew,Neave's other half from further up the page.Just sitting out under the verandah with a fire in the brazier having a beer at the end of the week in quite unseasonal temperatures(18 deg C at 9.30pm) although it has just started raining.Normally by this time of year there would be a bit of snow on the southern alps and Christchurch(for those of you who know where it is) would have had a few frosts. Can't quite believe I'll be leaving all this behind for 4 months in just 3 weeks time and although I've been a bit nervous getting travel and domestic plans sorted I'm really starting to get excited now! "The Program" is definately shaping up as one of the trip highlights and I'm really looking forward to meeting you all and having some fun together. We're having 2 weeks in Hungary then on to Turkey for 4 via Bucharest before "The Program" and following it's another 2 in Spain,2 in Portugal then about 3 in the US before home.Neither of us have spent a long time away travelling before now although I did do 6 months with a peace keeping force in the Sinai Desert in '85 which gave me a great opportunity to see Israel. We've both done shorter trips to the UK, Europe,South East Asia,South Pacific and Oz but we've never travelled together for this length of time..............yeah I know we'll have some challenges but it's still going to be a blast. We've got a week of WWOOFing booked in Turkey and we'll probably do another week of it in Portugal as well. Anyway, ther'll be plenty of yakking to be done when we get together in Madrid and for the following week so look forward to seeing you all then.

Subject : Hello from Nanaimo, BC, Canada Author : Lorne Freedman Posted 05/27/2010 18:53 =======================
I'm a High School Counsellor looking forward to the summer. :-)
What an adventure! My wife (Jane Carroll) and three children (17m, 13m, 13f) will also be attending the two week teen program. We originally thought we'd send them on their own, but our instincts got the better of us and now we're involved, too! We'll have a week in Madrid before the adult program starts so if anyone has suggestions about things to do, places to see, people to meet, we'd be happy to hear them.
A' la prochaine!

Is everyone planning to be there early? I live in Tennessee, grew up in Georgia, so the Spainards will get a taste of Southern drawl. LOL Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Subject : Reception and hotels Author : Judy Hooper Posted 06/17/2010 15:42 ======================= Hi all, does anyone know the location of the welcome reception on July 22? I would like to know where some of you are staying so I can book a room hopefully nearby. Also, where is the pick up site on Friday, does anyone know? That would help to know where to stay, too. I have been waiting to hear from friends near London if I can be there a couple of days before the program. I guess if I don't hear by tomorrow I will have to go ahead and book my flight directly to Madrid. Is anyone going to be in Madrid on Tuesday or Wednesday? If someone is going to be there to share sightseeing I could be there early. Hope to hear from some of you today so I can make my flight arraignments soon. Is anyone on Skype?

Subject : Introduction Author : Linda Jones Posted 06/24/2010 16:05 ======================= Hello to you all. I am 'late' in posting my details ... better late than never. Despite having an EU passport (born in UK) I have lived in Africa for the past 45 years. I don't really have qualifications - such as teacher etc - I qualified as a UN translator many decades ago but have worked as court translator in central Africa, worked for an airline company, been in sales, finance ... had my own business for twenty years and am now deliciously retired ... and having the time of my life. I went to University when I retired and studied Ceramic Design so am now 'officially' a ceramic artist! I am committed to working for those from disadvantaged communities, through Rotary International.
I am a widow, have three children living in Europe, love traveling, am passionate about bird watching, play a little bridge, love music, movies, sport (we are in the middle of Soccer Mania with the world cup!) ... in fact LIFE in general!!!
I arrive only on 22 July from Africa - am staying at the NH Suites Prisma, in answer to one question posted. Am really looking forward to this adventure!!! Linda

You can see all the streets and be able to tell what to look for when you get there. I am so excited, ready to go. BTW does anyone know if we need any dressy clothes or just casual and cool?
|
Subject : Dressing Author : Sara Lockett Posted 06/30/2010 04:57 Email : sara_lockett@hotmail.com Mostly it is really casual. There is a party night where people dress up a bit. Nothing too fancy. It is usually a great time though.

Subject : Just joined! Author : Susan (sue) North Posted 07/16/2010 11:44 ======================= Hi All,
Just confimed my flight plans - will be joining you all next week and looking foward to it. Landing in Malaga on Monday 19th and driving up to Madrid via Granada - will arrive ( hopefully) Thursday morning. Aim to be at the lunch but not booked in anywhere yet for Thurs eve - will catch up over lunch.
I'm travelling with my daugher who is attending the teachers programme. This will be my second programme the first being in L'Alberca 3 years ago in April - my tip is get some sleep in before you arrive. The programme I was on was great, fantastic people- both anglos and spaniards. The programme was well structured and organised. The accomodation was v.good and food fair. April in Alberca was changeable but I expect ( having checked weather stations) this progarmme in, late July, will be over 35 degrees maybe even 40!!!! so bring your linens :)
Looking forward to meeting you all.
